Use of the credential

Candidates who pass the examination and agree to AHIMA’s statement of understanding will be authorized to use the HIT Pro credential(s). AHIMA suggests the following guidelines when using credentials:

For Single HIT Pro Credential:

John Smith passed the HIT Pro – Practice Workflow & Information Management Redesign Specialist exam – John Smith, HIT Pro – PW

For Multiple HIT Pro Credentials:

John Smith passed the HIT Pro – Practice Workflow & Information Management Redesign Specialist exam and the Implementation Manager exam – John Smith, HIT Pro – PW, HIT Pro -IM

re: FUTURE OF HIT PRO EXAMS

AHIMA’s Commission on Certification for Health Informatics and Information Management (CCHIIM) is in the process of developing the Standards for Recertification for HIT Pro credentials. This is to ensure that CCHIIM-certified professionals demonstrate ongoing competence in the domain areas in which they are certified.

Additional information on Recertification requirements (i.e., number of CEUs required, reporting period, recertification cycle, fees) will be available in April 2013.

An e-mail has been sent out to all those who have passed the exams, with instructions to agree to a statement of understanding that requires compliance with AHIMA’s professional code of ethics. If you have passed the exam and not received this
e-mail, you can contact the HIT Pro staff to have it sent to you.

Reporting HIT Pro CEUs

Candidates get 5 CEUs for each HIT Pro exam they pass, which may be applied toward an existing AHIMA Credential.

Earn the CEUs in one year and report them by March of the following year.

Candidates also get 20 CEUs for having successfully completed the HITECH Training courses at a community college in the Consortium.
